Here in the French Pyrenees, Le Chateau Brangoly doesn't conform to the typical image of a French chateau. Think more of a farmhouse hotel with some distinctively patrician touches. Set amongst spectacular mountain scenery 1500m up in the Pyrenees, this is a wonderful location for country walks, skiing, ancient history and getting-away-from-it-all.

The history of the area goes back at least 4000 years. There is a dolmen (a megalithic stone burial chamber) dating from 2000 BC and considered one of the most beautiful and striking in the Catalunya Nord area, and a nearby Roman site. The hotel is located right on what was once a route of the Knights Templar.

The guest rooms are all Junior Suite or Superior category, having fully-equipped en-suite bathrooms (including hair dryer and makeup mirror), toiletries, central heating, television, big sofas, stereo and free wi-fi internet. There is also Le Petit Chateau, a separate house for up to 4 people with two bedrooms, a bathroom, fully-equipped kitchen with access to a private garden and a living room with fireplace, LCD TV, DVD player, wi-fiand great views of the Brangoly valley.

There is a dinner service for guests incorporating regional produce, homemade jam, andrina liqueur made in the chateau and ham cured the traditional way.

Chateau Brangoly may seem remote, but there is plenty to see and do. Skiing in winter of course, and walking in the mountain fresh air in summer. There are prehistoric sites to visit, the Dorres sulphur spring baths, the Yellow Train, the route of the churches and a number of renowned towns and villages such asbPuigcerdà, Vilafranche de Conflent,and Mont-Lluís. The tiny principlaity of Andorra is just 60km away.
