La Pommetier is a chambres d’hôtes (bed and breakfast) located in a pretty corner of Arromanches-les-Bains – the hub of the Normandy D-Day beaches. Just a 4 minute walk from the beach, this is the ideal base to see the Mulberry Harbour and tour the WW2 landing beaches and other historic sites.

The house is over 300 years old in parts, so after a year of renovation by owners Mike and Danielle La Pommetier opened to guests in 2015. It provides all the things needed for a relaxing stay – comfortable beds, quality linens, fluffy towels, toiletries you’ll want to take with you (Durance Mandarin and Ginger products) and a traditional French breakfast of local produce. You’ll find a range of the latest international magazines in the lounge to take out to a deck chair in the garden on a sunny afternoon or curl up with in front of the fire with a cup of tea in winter.

The entire house is centrally heated in winter with open fires in the living and dining rooms to sit by. In summer there is nothing nicer than to throw open the windows to the sounds of the birds and the Arro river tumbling into the historic lavoir across the lane.  The village church bells ring from 7am to 10pm every day usually accompanied by the village donkey in the field on the hill.

Three double rooms have a queen size double bed with luxury 1000 thread-count Egyptian cotton linens and a few pieces of antique French furniture.  The linen curtains are double thermal lined and the floors are carpeted for bare-feet to potter about in summer and be toasty warm in winter. A tea tray and a bottle of Evian water is provided each day. The fourth room is a family suite with two bedrooms, ideally suited to a couple with two children.

Arromanches and the beaches are great for visiting the key sites of D-Day, or equally for enjoying a seaside holiday with the family. Bayeaux is only 10km away, with it’s cathedral and the historic tapestry. Caen and William the Conqueror’s castle are just a little further.
