Vestay George V
, 12 Rue Marbeuf, 8th arrondissement, Paris.
A stay at the Vestay George V feels like having your own private apartment in the heart of Paris, but with the amenities of a boutique hotel. The apparently-staffless concept works well and is the reason why the rates are so economical for a luxury stay in the centre of Paris. Staff are there in the background though, accessible via an iPad app and providing cleaning and restocking when required. You can contact them for advice about museums, restaurants, shops and bars. Guests benefit from long distance check-in, so you will receive the entry codes in advance to your arrival.
Each exquisite suite has it's own balcony, big enough to sit out on as you watch the life of Paris go by. Inside, you have elaborate cornices, ceilings and fireplaces, and gorgeous polished parquet floors. It really does feel as if modern comfort has been seamlessly mixed with "belle epoque". Breakfast is provided in your room and other snacks and drinks are available to purchase. The free wifi even provides free phone calls, including international. Like the suites themselves, the bathrooms are a good size, especially for Paris. Toiletries are provided along with bathrobes and slippers.
The position just off the Avenue George V places you close to the major sights of the city. The Champs-Elysees is just a quarter mile away; l'Etoile and the Arc de Triomphe just a little further. Eating out is a special feature of any stay in Paris, and the restaurant Chez Andre right below the suites has been recommended by previous guests. For steak lovers, there is also the Relais de l'Entrecote on the opposite corner. Then there are hundreds of other restaurants of all styles and budgets within easy reach.
