It was a stroke of genius to convert an old horsebox into a unique holiday apartment. All the more so because of the location - out in the middle of nowhere in The Burren. The Glamping Truck is comfortable and spacious – fully insulated with a wood burning stove, an electric shower and a flush toilet. Two comfortable double beds snugly fit over the truck cabin and a handmade settle bed doubles up as a twin bed, while used as a couch during the day.

Burren Glamping sits right in the middle of a small eco-friendly farm outside the village of Kilfenora where guests can enjoy scenic and peaceful countryside. The lack of light pollution reveals thousands of stars you'll never see in any town and the darkness at night allows for a good nights sleep. Right across the road from the farm is the Tullagh Ringfort, an amazing relic from the Iron Age.

Hosts Stephen and Eva love to welcome their guests, introduce them to the animals and the farm, and cook for them if required. You could make your own breakfast in the little kitchen, but you really shouldn't miss Eva's full Irish breakfast with produce straight from the farm. Lunch or dinner is also possible, or maybe you'll enjoy using the barbecue grill.

Among the many animals on the small holding, the stars are Bianca and Betsy  –  two Saddleback pigs that are free range, sociable and curious. Not even the hardest heart can resist their little piglets when they are scurrying around. Out in the fields the small herd of beef cattle graze on fresh grass all year and there are free-range ducks and hens roaming around to provide your breakfast eggs. Ronny and Jules, the donkeys, will watch curiously all the comings and goings.

At first sight the expanses of bare rock on the Burren look barren yet it has a unique flora where Alpine, Arctic and Mediterranean plants grow side by side. For visitors it is one of the largest and most accessible karst regions in the world, with stunning geological formations and archaeological remains. For farmers like Stephen and Eva it offers rich grassland, where they can run a traditional, sustainable farm, using no fertilizers or pesticides and where animal welfare is core. Not far away, are the famous Cliffs of Moher, plunging vertically down into the Atlantic. Boat trips from the tiny harbour at Doolin will take you along the bottom of the cliffs or out to the Aran Islands a few miles offshore.
