Some have a view of the cathedral at the front while others look over the River Aure that passes through Bayeux. And who was Reine Mathilde? She was Queen Matilda, the rightful monarch of England who fought a civil war against the usurper King Stephen. After her defeat, she retired to Normandy to live out her years until her son was able to take the throne.
